I originally wasn’t going to make a post about this but it’s just too much like sales boycott from Finland. So we have Tomi Ahonen – a person who should by his profession be providing accurate data – posting a link to the source of his news…
…but talking about something the news article says is not true!
And Tomi got more out of this in his blog:
Thats fascinating news. So it means, that Whatsapp has observed they have enough traffic from the dwindling Symbian OS user base, that is not matched by what nominally seems like a larger Windows OS smartphone user base.
–Tomi Ahonen, December 6, 2016
Now to the actual source :
Whatsapp reports that they’re extending support on Nokia platforms, Series 40 and Symbian S60 until June 30th, 2017. The original axe date was by the end of 2016. Those that don’t get the extension date? Windows Phone 7, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, iPhone 3GS/iOS 6.
WhatsApp is killing support for old OS versions. Android 2.2, iOS6, Windows Phone 7.
Not for Android 7, iOS 10 or Windows 10 Mobile.
They really can’t kill older versions of Symbian as there is no support for other than Symbian^3 left! (So they’re extending support by 6 months.)
If Tomi Ahonen wants to see this as “Whatsapp will support Symbian but not Windows“…
…He also has to report this as “WhatsApp will support Symbian but not Android or iOS“.
(And I still can’t understand why anyone would believe anything this guy says.)
